New backpack
Vokinloksar33 April 15, 2018 #personal #review #gearI was intended to write this after I started my blog. (which should already happened long before). *update: which already happened at Jun 21 2018!
Today's story is about buying things and finding a inspiring company.
With the age growing, one start to get to known of himself in every aspects. For me, I used to have too little discretional money to spent before I got a job, then I gradually find out who I am in the process of spending money buying different kind of things.
I want to buy a backpack this time.
I had a Nike codura* backpack that I bought for my college, it costs about 300+ yuan, tho it is actually a lot money for me to spent at that time, buying a backpack seems inevitably for college life, so I kind of spend that without too much consideration. So I went directly to a off-season Nike factory store(Nike is the only brand I know back then) with my girlfriend-at-the-moment and choose some random black-as-I-always-like Nike backpack.
Later I found out that there's a little mysterous codura
sticker on the bag and says 'holds up to 50KG' somewhere in the strap, then I thought: umm, not bad.
Then I wear this bag alone day-in day-out for 7 years no matter it's for sports or everyday commuter or travel, I put it everywhere I can put carelessly and stuff it with everything I can think of, and till this day the outer surface of this bag still looks like the first time I met it.
Awesome.
What I learned:
-
The nature of most things bought is: they don't last. Either it is made intentionally or it's just not enough good quality, most things wear off in about a year or two, and turns completely unusable no more than 3 years.
-
But if you use something long enough, then there'll be some magical experience happens, you became connected to that thing and grew a emotional feeling about that stuff. You will feel at ease whenever you use it and there's this sense of safety and belonging and identity with it for you against this always-changing environment around you. It feels... like home.
This thing, in the process of using over time, changed gradually from something strange and alien transformed from the abstractive dollar bill you spent into what is "your belongings" and became part of yourself. I even suppose for me a relationship should be something like this as well.
So my belief of what I should choose when buying a stuff has thus grow into: I always want to make sure the things that I'm gonna have will last in a good shape for a long time, it should be practical and accountable, it should be customizable as I wish so that when the time of it becoming "part of myself" comes, I want to make sure it is defined to be a really good part of me.
Back to the bag.
Though the things that I said, time wears out everything in the end sooner or later. After 7 years, tho the outer looks great still, the mesh inside really rottened and corrupted and all the seperated pockets now merged into one big whole, the outer is what remains and remains only of this bag. It's time to switch into a new versatile bag!
Must haves:
- Durable material outside and inside
- Durable component connectors (zipper etc)
- Not too small (can holds a 15' laptop)
- Double shoulder strap
- Not too ugly (osprey type out)
- padding on the back for air flow and support
Better have:
- commuter friendly
- cycle frienly
Then I found this MiiR 25L commuter backpack after search 'lightweight durable commuter backpack' :)
It basically satisfies all my need and all the reviews seems very positive about it and it really looks like a durable, high-quality, and handy backpack.
And the concept of the company (like patagonia) is about to help with clean water and bicycle community stuff with the profit it earns also stands out awesome and inspired me a lot.
I hope this new bag can be enjoyed for a long time as well and I hope that there'll be more company like these who cares about every aspect of the products and their users and combine profit with contributing.
End note
-
Every product of MiiR has a Give Code along with it so that you can know how your part of donation is used in every aspect which is super cool, I can't wait to find out what it looks like :P
-
Amazon Global Store is a killer.

the zipper is attached to the bag by using glue, which is not that safe, there are two region that the glue can not stick anymore, except that everything's fine.
