Sync Obsidian with syncthing
Vokinloksar33 September 20, 2024 #techI write basically everything in obsidian, not for any specific purpose, I just use Obsidian as a folder to store my markdown files and that's it.
But I do have several devices (PC, tablet, phone to say at least), and I would really want to sync all my markdown files across them. Also because I may write from any of these device, so I need to have them all synced.
I initially thought about a centralized syncing service on the cloud, but it seems this is not needed at all.
I tried Onedrive for the task, especially for it's sync-ability inside wall. But it would pay to sync folders on my android phone, so I finally decide to seek for some better option.
I learned about NextCloud, Seafile, Filerun, Foldersync after the Onedrive solution, but most of them are not free and the free ones have their own issues.
Also I tried webdav, but it seems lacking mutual syncing ability out-of-box.
So the current final option is syncthing. Took me a half day to set it up. It meets my needs on unlimited folder-syncing on all my devices and the time and speed works out fine. Though the UI and logics may still be improved, I can finally enjoy wrting on my different obsidian vault on any of my devices😊.
